Obituary: Teutopolis Press - December 2, 1920
Tegenkamp Dead
Jos. H. Tegenkamp an old pioneer settler of Douglas township and later on an old resident of Effingham, died Friday morning at 6:30 Nov. 26th at Home In Effingham. Mr. Tegenkamp had been in goof health for a year or so, but became suddenly worse and died of heart failure.
Deceased was born in Dinklage, grand-duchy of Oldenburg Germany, June 11, 1889. In 1846 he immigrated to this country with his parents who settled near Green Creek Church He his schooling at Green Creek after that he learnt the blacksmith trade with Frey and Eggerman at Teutopolis, which trade he followed during the remainder of his life. On May 22, 1862 he was, united in marriage to Miss Elisabeth Busse. This union was blessed with ten children, eight of whom are living.
A year after his marriage he moved to Effingham where he has since resided and followed his trade. Deceased is survived by his aged wife, one son, Henry, at Home, and seven daughters, Mrs. Caroline Weber, Mrs. Lilly Kr ause and Mrs. Anna Kotelmann of Chicago, Mrs. Bridget Linder, Mrs. Lena Barlage and the Misses Frances and Alice of Effingham; three brothers Anton of Effingham and Frank and John of Green Creek; ten grandchildren and one great-grand child.
Funeral was held from St Anthony's Catholic Church at Effingham Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock, Nov. 29, followed by a large number of relatives, neighbors and friends of the deceased. Interment was made in St Anthony Ceme tery. Rev L. Lammert, pastor of St Anthony Church officiated in Church and at the grave. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. THE PRESS extends heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family;
